A Farming Community

About Vashon

Vashon is an island in Puget Sound known for its welcoming community, rural heart, beautiful beaches, wilderness areas and thriving arts offerings--Vashon Center for the Arts just opened a state-of-the-art performance center. More than 15 farms sell their produce at the weekly farmers market (nearly year-round), city farmers markets, in local stores and at self-serve farm stands. Many local restaurants and food businesses focus on locally sourced ingredients and serve island produce when possible. Approximately 10,000 people make their home here year-round. Hogsback Farm is located walking distance from town, just 1 mile northwest of the town center, and 3 miles from the public schools.

VIGA and Farming Community

The Vashon Island Growers Association is an educational organization and a network of island farmers that works to promote island farming and runs the Saturday farmers market. Farmers of all ages provide an informal support network for those new to the profession.
